Calligraphy and painting framed pieces are made by combining silk, paper and glue. The paper surface is pliable and can be bent or straightened. Based on the pliability of the paper surface, there are four methods for shaping the back of the framed pieces.
1. Reverse rolling shaping method: Since the glue on the paper is pliable, if there is a rolled-back phenomenon on the framed piece, first roll the framed piece from the top down in reverse. After rolling, place it on a platform or a clean floor for several hours or overnight, and then hang it on the wall. Through reverse rolling, it achieves reverse inertial shaping, where the front and back cancel each other out, making the framed piece straight. This reverse rolling method can be used all year round. If the first reverse rolling does not achieve the desired effect, it can be repeated. With multiple reverse rolls, the weak force and plasticity of the paper glue in the framed piece gradually decrease, and the influence of the climate on the framed piece gradually disappears. Do not roll the framed piece too small when reverse rolling; otherwise, it is easy to crack the framed piece. If it is too large, it will not achieve the shaping effect. The size of the reverse rolled diameter of the framed piece can be determined according to the softness of the framed piece. It is best to roll it during the time when the weather is humid in the morning or evening, and leave it on the platform or floor for one night or one day. After the framed piece is affected by the dry and wet climate during the day or night, the shaping effect will be better.

2. Heating reverse rolling shaping: Some framed pieces cannot be shaped by the conventional reverse rolling method. Using the principle of thermal expansion and contraction, heat the electric iron to around 50-60 degrees, place the framed piece on the platform, and gently heat the back of the framed piece from top to bottom with the electric iron. Before the framed piece is completely cooled, reverse roll it. The electric iron should not be too hot; otherwise, it will easily crack the framed piece and also cause damage to the calligraphy and painting.
3. Compression shaping method: For precious calligraphy and painting, reverse rolling or heating shaping methods may cause damage to the calligraphy and painting. The compression shaping method can be used to solve this problem.
Place the rolled-back framed piece on a platform or board, with the framed piece facing up. Use three wooden strips of the same length as the framed piece and about 10-15 centimeters in width, respectively, to press on both sides and the middle of the framed piece. Then, place a heavy object on the wooden strips. After three to five days, remove the wooden strips. If there are no wooden strips, you can use plywood. Because plywood is thin and has elasticity, a certain weight of the heavy object pressing on the plywood will make it flat. Using a flat plywood to press on the shaped framed piece will have a better effect.
3. Bag sealing method: After the framed pieces of calligraphy and painting are finished, if they are not to be exhibited or collected immediately, to prevent the influence of external climate, you can use polyethylene (plastic) film to seal the framed pieces, and seal the bag opening with tape. This bag sealing method can prevent the erosion of dry and wet climate on the framed pieces, causing them to stretch and shape. If you need to open the bag to take the painting, it is best to choose the same climate conditions as when sealing the bag. Then, the framed piece is rarely deformed or rolled back.
